Who is responsible for your health?

Every New Year, I am bombarded with questions about health insurance and chiropractic. Many people are very surprised to find out that their health insurance does not cover the care that they need. This is a valid concern, because in our country we pay so much for our health insurance.Just like car insurance does not pay for you to change your oil or rotate your tires, health insurance was not made for preventative care. Although we help people bounce back after a health crisis, the majority of the work that I do is to help prevent future health problems, and to allow people to express a greater level of well-being.Ultimately, we have to ask, ‘Who is responsible for my health?’ It sounds like a silly question, but many people live their lives as if President Obama, Medicare, or their health insurance company are responsible for their health. These are often unconscious beliefs, and are devastating for our health.Not getting the necessary chiropractic care for your or your children because your health insurance company won’t pay for it, is like not buying a toothbrush and toothpaste because your dental insurance won’t pay for it.When a very wealthy person or their loved one loses their health, they will pay ANYTHING to have their health restored. Unfortunately, that is not always possible. An ounce of prevention is worth far MORE than a pound of cure.Have a happy and healthy New Year!Dr. Sean
